Dr.Pierre W. Banks was born on the Southside of Chicago, IL and lived there until he was eight years old. In 1997, his parents and younger brother moved to a small suburban town in West Michigan called Zeeland. Dr. Banks was the recipient of his high school’s the Dance Department Award and Director’s Award for his work in the performance arts.
Dr. Banks is an alumnus of Central Michigan University (CMU) where he earned his bachelor’s with a major in Organizational Communication with minors in Leadership and Dance. After being an involved student leader, Dr. Banks went on to pursue his master’s in Education with an emphasis in College Student Affairs Leadership at Grand Valley State University. While working full-time at BGSU he completed a Doctorate of Education in Leadership Studies. His dissertation was titled Exploratory Study of Generational Differences in Facets and Overall Job Satisfaction of a Division in a Multi-State Healthcare Provider. In 2017 he moved to the Houston area and began working at Assistant Director of Admissions and Records at Galveston College.
Dr. Banks is an active member of Clear Lake United Methodist as serves on the church’s advisory council as well as volunteers with the young adult and homeless ministries. He also enjoys spending time with his partner, dance/theatre, movies, documentaries, shopping, reading nonfiction books, working out, playing most sports, and watching college football.
Currently, Dr. Banks is the Senior Learning & Career Counseling Specialist as well as a faculty member in Psychiatry and Human Development within the School of Medicine at the University of Texas-Medical Branch. Dr. Banks has a wide variety of higher education experience, which includes academic advising, admissions, career counseling, orientation, international admissions, multicultural affairs, retention, student conduct, and student activities.
