William Henry King, MD, 67 of League City, Texas passed away on Friday, June 12 2009 in Houston, Texas.
Two months before Pearl Harbor, on October 15, 1941, Mildred M. and Eugene F. King, Sr. welcomed their first child William King. He was raised along with his five brothers and sisters in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
William graduated from Douglas High School and Oklahoma City University. He matriculated to Howard Universtiy where he received his medical degree in 1968. While in medical school, he met a lovely medical physiologist, Rose Marie. She became his wife, and they together raised three sons, Wilbur, William, and Richard, Clear Lake City, Texas.
Dr. King joined the US Public Health Service (USPHS) where he did his internship and residency. He subsequently became Chief of the Anesthesiology service and Assoc. Director of Hospital Services. In 1979, he was transferred to the USPHS Hospital, Nassau Bay, TX. Dr.
King served as the Medical Director (CEO) until closure of the PSH hospital in 1981.
The next phase of Dr. King’s career blossomed in the Anesthesiology Department of the University of Texas Medical Branch, where he taught medical students and residents while providing clinical care for patients. Dr. King also served as Assistant Dean for Student Services and Director of the Office of Special Programs. He also served diligently in the Texas Society of Anesthesiologist, including a term as President.
Dr. King retired from UTMB in 1997 and redirected his efforts into community service. He served in numerous organizations including Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Old Central Cultural Center, Inc. , Boys & Girls Club of Galveston County, Bay Area First Baptist Church, and Communities in Schools, Bay Area.
He is survived by his wife Rose Marie King; three sons, Wilbur Eugene King, William Samuel King, and Richard Daniel King, MD, PhD and wife Elicia Williams-King, MD; four grandchildren, Ariel, Alexis, Jordan, and Stephanie; three sisters Anita Buckner and husband Grover, Eva, and Janet; one brother, Eugene F. Jr.; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents Mildred and Eugene, and his brother Wallace.
