Brother Roy E. Byerly, P.E. was inducted into Alpha Phi Alpha at Lamar University, Beaumont, Texas in 1972 where he earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He graduated from Lamar in 1974 and joined Monsanto Co, Chocolate Bayou Plant, Alvin Tx.
Roy worked as Reliability, Project, and Maintenance Engineering for major part of his career at Monsanto Co. He started in 1974 and worked as Plant Support Engineer focused onhigh impact projects. He developed maintenance strategies for rotating equipment and fixed equipment. He was assigned to Project Engineer/Manager during 1980, leading and implementing major capital projects. Roy transferred back to Maintenance organization as Reliability Engineer in 1985. Roy developed and led Preventive and Predictive maintenance programs for Reliability Improvement. Roy Implemented Reliability Centered Maintenance at Chocolate Bayou. He developed and implemented the Lubrication program for Chocolate Bayou Plant. He led the implementation of SAP at the Plant Site that was related to Reliability and Maintenance. Roy developed plant procedures, work practices, work instructions to ensure Safety and Environmental compliance.
Roy was a Director of Gulf Coast Waste Disposal Authority from 1992 to 1996. He was appointed by the Governor of Texas and was the first black as Director of Gulf Coast Waste Disposal Authority. Gulf Coast Waste Disposal Authority provides waste treatment services to Bayport Industrial Facilities and the Greater Houston area.
Roy joined Flour Corporation, Sugarland, Tx. for a short stint as Design Engineer after 32 years with Monsanto Co. He was design engineer responsible for designing, specifying, and procurement of rotating equipment. Roy worked with a project team assigned to design and construct a major multi-billion dollar Petrochemical Complex in Russia.
Roy is presently working for Nippon Chemical, Pasadena, Texas where he is assigned to reliability engineering, rotating equipment engineering, and project management. Roy leads the Reliability Improvement Team in improving the reliability and operability of the plant. He is responsible for the Predictive Maintenance & Preventive Programs.
