Charles Baldwin departed this life on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at the Friendship Haven Care Center in Friendswood, TX.
Charles was born in Houston Texas on January 9, 1936, to the parents of Alexander and Algeretta Holman Baldwin. He graduated from Jack Yates High School in 1953. He attended Prairie View A&M University and then served in the United States Army for three years. Charles received a Bachelor’s degree from Weber State University in Ogden Utah and obtained a Master’s degree in social Work from the University of Utah. He was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church as a child and later joined Live Oak Baptist church.
Charles married Ella Veasey in 1959. To this marriage was born 4 children, Corington Baldwin of Pearland, Texas, Charlene Robinson of Pearland, Alexander Baldwin of Georgetown, Rita Baldwin of Pearland.
Charles was named “Main Man” by his grandchildren. He was a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Charles worked as the Director of Social Services for Galveston Independent School District for many years until he retired. Charles enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
His favorite past times were traveling with his grandchildren and supporting their extracurricular activities. He also enjoyed watching sporting events and traveling to Louisiana with family and friends. Charles was well known in Galveston County for his random acts of kindness. He was always willing to help those in need whether it was providing shelter, food, money and most importantly, assisting many with personal income tax services.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Caldwell. He leaves to cherish his memories six children, Keith Willliams of Houston, Texas, Charles Jackson of Boerne, Texas, Corington Baldwin, Charlene Robinson, Alexander Baldwin, Rita Baldwin; seven grandchildren, Christopher Robinson, Nicolette Jackson, Anthony Robinson, Amber Rozier, Briana Williams, Ashley Baldwin, Jasmine Williams; one nephew, Ricky Caldwell and a host of relatives and friends.
