James Josey, Sr.

Brother Josey has been a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. since
2011. He is a graduate of Galveston’s Central High School, class of 1965.

In 1968, he entered into the United States Army and fought in the Viet-Nam war.
He was awarded the Viet-Nam service medal w/4 bronze stars, national defense
service medal, Viet-Nam campaign medal and expert rifleman.

In 1974, he was honorably discharged and later in 1979, he moved to Compton
California, where he attended Compton Community College and earned an associate
degree.

In 1991, he moved back to Galveston, Texas and attended Texas Southern
University and graduated with a bachelor degree in social work.

In 1998 he was president of the Old Central Carver Park Neighborhood association
where he helped allocate $1.4 million in C.D.B.G. funds for the north side of Broadway.

In 1999, he created Galveston’s First African American Museum and has received
three proclamations from three different Mayors and one from the county Judge.

Brother Josey is married to Pearlie Goins-Josey for over 46 years they have four
adult children Simona, Jamika, April, and James Jr. and five grandchildren Adrian,
Asia, James Ill, Jolie, and Carter.
